How has the situation for women changed since the Taliban took power in 2021 August? From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban was in power. Women had to cover their faces outside of the home. This rule has come back again. Other new rules were made by the Taliban for women. A woman in Afghanistan was allowed to go outside the home only with a man. This man should either be her father or the closest man in her family. They ban women from working outside their home, ban girl’s education after year six, deny women their right to political participation as well as their social, economic and cultural rights. These rules are against women’s rights. Women are asking for their basic and fundamental human rights.

Taliban (タリバン。アフガニスタンを実効支配するイスラム主義組織), take power (権力を取り戻す), be in power (権力を有する), ban (禁止する), political participation (政治参画)
