The Indian Elephant (インドの象) – Level 3

Let’s read aloud first. 最初に声を出して読んでみましょう。

Five elephants were all tied up at a festival in Kerala state in India. One elephant was aggressive and attacked twenty-seven vehicles parked near a temple. Two people clung on the elephants back to try to tame but they could not calm the elephant. Luckily no one was hurt by the elephant. These elephants were kept at the festival to attract the people. The elephant broke free and started attacking parked vehicles, including rickshaws and motorbikes around it. This was a dangerous thing to see. Such incidents commonly happen in India. Similarly, a wild elephant had gone on a rampage in a village in India’s eastern West Bengal state and damaged around 100 structures.

clung (clingしがみつく の過去形), break free (逃げ出す), rickshaw (リクシャー, 小型タクシー), rampage (暴れまわる)
